DESU DESIGN is an American design and manufacturing company that produces the utilitarian and art objects designed by David E. Scott (DESU is an acronym for David E. Scott Utility). At DESU, we strive to make innovative products that blur the boundary between art and design. Our goal is to create pieces of lasting quality, retaining their beauty and functionality for generations. We utilize the precision of modern manufacturing methods with the unmatched skills of the human hand. Inspiration comes from forms found in nature, the history of modern design, and the combined beauty of geometry and the machine. DESU produces many of our products in house and through a network of small independent producers almost all of whom are located in Southern Vermont and New England.
David E. Scott founded DESU DESIGN in 1995 in Los Angeles, California, shortly after attending the Masters of Architecture program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC.) In the early years DESU was primarily an architectural metals fabricator, creating work with firms that would go on to be regarded as some of the top architects of the current generation. At the same time, the earliest products were designed and became the genesis of DESU's product line. In 2000, David relocated to Brooklyn, NY to bring the products to market. Over the ensuing years DESU DESIGN was a fixture in the burgeoning Brooklyn Design scene. In 2009, DESU began the transition to a permanent residency in the Green Mountains of Southern Vermont.
